What is an Open Graph preview?

When someone shares your link on X, Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack, iMessage or almost any modern app, that app reads special Open Graph meta tags from your page to build the preview card — the image, title and description people actually see. If those tags are missing or wrong, your link shows up as a bare URL or a broken card, and you lose clicks.

The tags that matter

  • og:title — the headline of the card (aim for under ~60 characters).
  • og:description — one or two lines under the title.
  • og:image — an absolute URL to a 1200×630 image that returns HTTP 200.
  • og:url — the canonical URL of the page.
  • twitter:card — set to summary_large_image for a big image on X.

Validate your Twitter Cards

This tool doubles as a Twitter Card validator: it reads your twitter:card, twitter:title, twitter:description and twitter:image tags and renders the exact card X will show. If your Twitter tags are missing, X falls back to your Open Graph tags — so at minimum you want complete og: tags, and twitter:card set to summary_large_image for a full-width image.

How to fix a broken preview

Add the missing tags to your page’s <head>, make sure og:image is an absolute HTTPS URL that loads, and re-run this tool. Because platforms cache previews, you may also need to clear the cache in each platform’s own debugger after you fix the tags.

Frequently asked questions

01

How do I check my Open Graph tags?

Paste your page URL above. AnswerScope fetches the live page, reads its Open Graph (og:) and Twitter Card (twitter:) meta tags, and shows you exactly how the link will look when shared on X, Facebook, LinkedIn and Slack — plus a pass/fail on every required tag.

02

Why is my link preview not showing an image?

The most common cause is a missing or non-absolute og:image tag, an image that returns a non-200 status, or an image below the recommended 1200×630 pixels. This tool tells you which of those is the problem.

03

What is the difference between Open Graph and Twitter Card tags?

Open Graph (og:title, og:description, og:image) controls previews on Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack and most apps. Twitter Cards (twitter:card, twitter:title, twitter:image) control X. If Twitter tags are missing, X falls back to your Open Graph tags — so at minimum you want complete og: tags.

04

Do social preview tags affect SEO?

Not directly, but they strongly affect click-through rate from social and messaging apps, and a well-formed preview is a signal of a well-maintained page. Broken previews cost you clicks.

The next question

Your page is AI-ready. But does AI actually cite you?

Being crawlable is step one. The AI Visibility Checker shows whether ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Gemini name and cite your brand, and who they name instead.
